In your editorial "Behind the Indian Protest" you stated: "That any President would propose or any Congress grant sovereign-nation status to Indians is, frankly, inconceivable." I should like for you to explain to me why it is inconceivable.
The Indians are a sovereign nation and were long before the white man came to this country. They had established self governments and tribal procedures already hundreds of years old when the dregs of the European nations came to these shores
True there were hostilities between tribes, but these were settled without mass extermination and with respect for each other's rights as men.
